Course Outline
The Visual Arts ATAR course encompasses the practice and theory of the broad areas of art. Students have opportunities to express their imagination, develop art making skills, build on existing analytical skills and engage in the making and presentation of artwork.
Art making tasks will include drawing, designing, taking reference from artists, media testing within an art folio. This will culminate in a resolved artwork each semester.
Art interpretation tasks will include analysing artworks, learning, and applying art language, exploring art movements, art history and influence of artists on students own work, writing artist statements, analytical and investigative essays and exams.
The course is divided into two units, each of one semester duration.
Skills Outline
Unit 1 – Differences
The focus of this unit is Differences. Students consider differences arising from cultural diversity, place, gender, class and historical period in their art making and interpretation. Mediums studies may include painting and drawing.
Unit 2 – Identities
The focus of this unit is Identities. Students explore concepts or issues related to personal, social, cultural or gender identity in their art making and interpretation. Mediums studied may include painting, sculpture, and ceramics.
In each unit the course content is divided into the following content areas:
- Art making – Production.
- Art interpretation – Written, including semester exams.
