Course Outline
Economics investigates the choices which all people, groups and societies face as they confront the ongoing problem of satisfying their unlimited wants with limited resources.
Economics aims to understand and analyse the allocation, utilisation and distribution of scarce resources that determine our wealth and wellbeing. Economics develops the knowledge, reasoning and interpretation skills that form an important component of understanding individual, business and government behaviour at the local, national and global levels.
The Year 11 Economics course is designed to suit the needs of students considering tertiary study and is relevant to careers in a wide range of industries.
Skills Outline
This course enables students to develop a variety of skills relating to economic behaviour and reasoning, including the ability to:
- Undertake economic research
- Analyse economic information
- Communicate and evaluate information
- Think creatively and critically
Minimum Entrance Requirements
B Grade in Year 10 Humanities and Social Sciences
A student who attains a high C Grade in Year 10 may be allowed to study this course, however the expectation is that he/she will put in additional effort and access additional support (such as tutoring outside of the College) in order to succeed.
