Course Outline
Understanding the Modern World, Unit 1, and Movements for change in the 20th century, Unit 2, are designed to suit the needs of students considering tertiary study at the end of Year 12.
In Unit 1, students will examine the experience of Capitalism in the United States in the first half of the Twentieth Century. Students will study the rise of economic excess in the 1920s, to the Nations decline to economic depression and despair in the 1930s.
In Unit 2, the key context is a historical movement. Students will investigate the evolution of Nazism in Germany and the rise and fall of Adolf Hitler. The focus of Unit 1 is the Age of Imperialism between 1848 and 1914. Students will examine the forces that contributed to the rise of imperialism and the events imperialism precipitated such as World War One. Through their studies, students explore the nature of sources for the study of modern history and build their skills in historical method through inquiry.
