Course Outline
Semester 1 – A1DAN – Popular Culture
Students are introduced to:
- Exploration of dance in popular culture
- Skills and Techniques in Contemporary
- Safe dance practice, Choreographic devices and elements of dance
- Popular trends in dance & dance in music media
- The WACE Set Solo
- Written and practical examinations
- Dance Language
Semester 2 – A2DAN – Australian Dance
Students are introduced to:
- History and development of dance in Australia
- Original solo composition
- Skills for improvisation
- Written and Practical examinations
- Performance at Mindarie Senior College Dance Night
Minimum Entrance Requirements
Previous dance experience (especially contemporary/ballet/jazz), and strong writing skills.
Contemporary dance is a major component of practical lessons.
*This course is not recommended for students with consistent injuries. Students technical abilities and suitability for the course will be assessed after one week of technique.
