Course Outline

Semester 1 – Unit 3
Popular Culture

Students will focus on:

• Practical and theoretical dance lessons
• Safe dance practice physical skills and coordination
• Technique for different styles of dance
• Performance qualities
• Functions of dance in society
• Dance language
• Genre-specific technique including the following possible styles: Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary Tap, Broadway, Cultural and Lyrical dance.

Semester 2 – Unit 4
Australian Dance

Students will focus on:

• Range of functions of dance in Australia
• Genre-specific technique including the following possible styles: Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Broadway and Lyrical dance.
• Design concepts and technologies
• Class and small group performances at Dance Night
• Australian dance companies and choreographers

Minimum Entrance Requirements

No dance experience needed
