2023 Year 12 College Ball
On Saturday, 18 March, 429 students and guests and 27 staff members attended the 2023 Year 12 College Ball held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
On arrival, students signed in then entered the foyer through an arbour with ivy, flowers and fairy lights setting the Enchanted Forrest theme.
Students were offered a Mai Tai Mocktail as they mingled in the foyer or absorbed the views of the Swan River from the balcony. Other students took the opportunity to have their photo taken by the professional photographers with their friends. Playing a guitar in the background was a live musician setting the tone for the night to come.
Once the large black curtains were opened to the ballroom students were treated to the sight of a magnificent garden themed room with a large working garden swing. All tables were decorated with centre pieces of Cherry Blossoms, candles, vases and Ivy.
On each table was a selection of delectable entrees of cured and cooked Australian meats, fresh and preserved vegetables, freshly cooked bread rolls and an assortment of dips and chips for students to nibble on while waiting for the evening to begin.
The event was opened with an Acknowledgement to Country by Scarlett McKenney then students were addressed by the School Captains, Matilda Elphick, Sarah Morrell and Abbie Tysziewicz. Students were then free to enjoy their evening with dancing, two photo booths, professional photography booths, a working garden swing and a roving magician.
The main meal was buffet style with offerings of butter chicken, papadums, vegetarian moussaka, roast salmon, seasonal steamed vegetables and a selection of salads. Later on in the night, and if anyone had room left, there was a large selection of desserts available, most notably it was the chocolate fountain which was a huge hit with students and staff.
A DJ set the mood for the rest of the night playing student selected songs that had everyone on the dance floor early on.
Congratulations to the following students who received the traditional MSC Ball awards on the night, voted for by the students and staff:
• Best Dressed – Kayla Ryan
• Best on Ground – Sean Espulgar
• Cutest Couple – Lilli Byass and Finley Moorhouse
• Best Dancer – Liz Toal
• Congeniality award – Leo Joubert
Before the night was over, there was one more item to come – a surprise staff dance!
The staff had been practicing the routine for weeks ensuring the finale was a highlight of the night. All staff did an amazing routine which was choreographed and coordinated by our own dance teacher Mrs Michelle Stenner. The dance started with a waltz, which blended into ‘Whoomp, There It Is, then Flo Rida’s ‘Low, finishing with Megan Trainer’s ‘I Made You Look’!
Well done to all staff who were involved.
The night was an overwhelming success and the College would like to acknowledge and congratulate the tireless work put in by our Year 12 Leaders, Ms Emily Gorst and Mr Oliver Wisker, the Year 12 Student Councillors, the Student Services team and all the other staff who helped ensure the night ran smoothly.
Information regarding the Photo Booth and Professional Photos will be emailed home when ready.
