2023 World’s Greatest Shave Event
On Tuesday, the 11th May the College came together for the World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser to support the Leukaemia Foundation and help raise money for vital research for blood cancers like lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma.
This is the 9th year the College has supported the cause and it was one of our biggest with more students than ever either shaving their head, cutting off at least 20cm of hair or removing their beloved mullet or rat’s tail!
Our World’s Greatest Shave Ambassador Lauren Stacey opened the event. Lauren story of surviving cancer was shared with the students through Mentor in the previous weeks.
There was an excited energy in the air as students gathered in the atrium and mezzanine to see our science teacher, Mrs Lesley Morrow and Year 12 student Stevan Merenda remove their beloved locks. The pair had been fundraising for the event in the month leading up to the event and together had raised over $3500 for the cause.
After Stevan and Mrs Morrow had been shaved, the line of students who wanted to get involved kept growing and there were still students lining up when it was time to head back into the classroom!
It was fantastic to see the show of support from the College community.
Other events on the day were hair colouring and braiding, leg waxing, a sausage sizzle, and live music performances. All MSC students are to be congratulated for their involvement and participation throughout the event.
The College community raised over $600 on the day which will go to the Leukaemia Foundation.
Donations can still be made HERE.
A big thanks to our hairdresses on the day, Hannah Fae Clewley’s mum Sophia, and Stevan Merenda’s cousin. Thanks also to the Student Services team who organised the day, the Year 11 and 12 Student Councillors for running the stalls, our music students for entertaining the crowd and all students who got involved on the day.
