2021 R U OK Day
Although it was a wet, wild and cold day, it could not dampen the spirits of students and staff for this year’s R U OK Day.
The Student Services team had to think outside the box after realising that the weather was not going to be kind. Luckily it all worked out and a fun filled afternoon was had with entertainment from Freestyle Now a BMX stunt show and a visit from Sue’s Barn Babes Petting Zoo which is always a popular attraction. The usual sausage sizzle went down and treat and surprisingly the ice cream van had a long line all afternoon.
Staff wore yellow R U OK shirts and donned R U OK badges while students were encouraged to wear something yellow to show their support of the day. Staff also tried their best to capture a selfie with the lamas which is tradition on R U OK Day at the College.
Proceeds from the free dress day and sausage sizzle will be used by the Cert II in Community Services students to purchase items for care packages they are making for the Patricia Giles Centre.
Today’s event is another way the College encourages students to be mentally healthy by being active, having a sense of belonging, and having a purpose in life which all contributes to good mental health.
Act-Belong-Commit
‘R U OK Day’ is an Australian non-profit suicide prevention organisation, founded in 2009 which advocates for people to have conversations with other to make sure they are doing OK. Have you asked someone if they are OK today?
A big thank you to the Student Services Team for putting the event together and all students and staff for ensuring a positive and fun afternoon for all.
